The modules/stages you will generally go through:

PPL (Private Pilot License) You learn the basics of flying under Visual Flight Rules (VFR).

There is a theoretical exam part and a practical flying test.

Hour Building
After the PPL, you need to accumulate flight hours (especially Pilot in Command – PIC time) to meet the minimums for additional training. You can also do a Night Rating (to fly at night under VFR) during this phase.

ATPL(A) Theory
There are 13 ATPL theoretical subjects that you must learn and pass the exams.

These can be done through distance learning, elementary school, or in person, depending on the educational institution.

CPL + Instrument Rating + Multi-Engine Rating
After sufficient theory and flight hours, he progresses to Commercial Pilot License (CPL) training, with instrument (IR) and multi-engine (ME) flight training.

In instrument training, you will learn to fly in low visibility/IFR conditions using instruments.

Upset Prevention & Recovery Training (UPRT)
This training aims to deal with unusual attitudes, recovering from unexpected attitudes. It is generally required before multi-crew training.

MCC / APS-MCC (MCC Airline Pilot Cooperation / Standards of Airline Pilot)
This module trains you to operate in a multi-pilot environment (crew resource management, cockpit procedures, …)

ATPL Frozen
After completing the theoretical exams, CPL, IR, ME, MCC, you will have a “frozen ATPL” (i.e., you can act as a co-pilot in commercial operations).

To unlock it (i.e., be eligible to be a captain), you will need to accumulate more flight experience in real operations (e.g., 1,500 total hours, with certain sub-minimums: PIC, instrument flight, night flight, multi-crew).

  1. You will need a minimum number of flight hours (total and PIC) to qualify for the CPL and complete the modules.
  2. The ATPL theory exams must be passed (13 subjects).
  3. There may be restrictions on the number of times you can attempt the exams and during which period.
  4. To unlock the ATPL (become a full ATPL), you will need to meet the total flight time requirements. For example: 1,500 hours total, with specific hours in night flight, instrument flight, and multi-pilot flight.

Timeline

Commercial Pilot Course: Individual Modules

The Airline Pilot Modular Course is a flexible, accessible, and adaptable training solution tailored to each student’s reality. Unlike an integrated course, this path allows you to complete each stage of training at your own pace, balancing studies with other personal or professional responsibilities. It is the ideal option for those who already have some experience in aviation — such as a Private Pilot License (PPL) — or for those who prefer a gradual approach to building their career as a professional pilot.

The modular training consists of several independent modules, which, together, lead to obtaining a Commercial Pilot License with ATPL Theory (ATPL Frozen).
